David has worked in the refrigeration industry for 17 years and joined STS in 2012. Starting as an apprentice service engineer in the company’s operations business, David then transferred to the design department after gaining an HND in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning. During his time as a design engineer he worked extensively on ammonia and CO2 refrigeration systems.

Six years experience outside Star includes working as a project manager for heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) and refrigeration projects for offshore installations.

At STS David has been involved in the full range of work including plant performance surveys, plant compliance and safety inspections, carrying out refrigeration plant feasibility studies and preparation of specifications for new plant installations. Recent significant projects have included:

  • Work for Aggreko covering fault finding tasks and a design review of their Global Chiller. The evaluation report and its recommendations allowed Aggreko to re-commence chiller manufacturing, which had been on-hold.
  • As the lead engineer for elements of the Concept SELECT work undertaken by STS for BP as part of their FPS RLPG refrigeration replacement project
  • Undertaking system review work for Centrica’s gas stream dewpoint cooling system at Barrow in Furness, assessing leakage rates and recommending techniques for reducing / preventing leakage.

Immediately prior to joining STS David acted as design and project manager on a high value HVAC and refrigeration project for two new ultra deepwater MODU’s. The scope included hazardous area systems serving the rigs process zones, control rooms and general areas.
