Relevant Experience:

John joined STS in 2015 after working in the industrial contracts design department of Star Refrigeration for 5 years. During his time there he has been involved design and optimisation work for a wide range of applications such as process hydrocarbon refrigeration systems, two stage ammonia heat pumps, HFC power generation from waste heat, high ambient drilling mud coolers as well as traditional chill, cold store and blast industrial plant. John presented a technical paper to the IOR in 2014 featuring an economic comparison between evaporative and air cooled condensers.

This detailed study covered a variety of plant sizes and types as well as load profiles and weather data across multiple UK sites. This study included modeling the part load optimisation of compressor and fan power for a fair comparison of annual running costs which were appraised with a NPV financial model to determine payback period. The paper can be found at http://www.ior.org.uk/QREMWO136591.

John’s work in STS has included a number of projects as well as Ammonia Hazard Assessments and PSSR examinations. – Specification writing to support the tendering process of a 7MW dairy in Saudi Arabia. – Installation and analysis of live monitoring data for BrewDog’s refrigeration equipment to determine load profile and spare plant capacity. – Specification, procurement and management of refrigeration equipment to support Scottish Water’s aerobic granular biomass pilot plant by providing controlled cooling to simulate extreme winter conditions. – Analysis and comparison of pumping power and heat transfer for alternative food safe secondary refrigerants. – Creation of function control document for a 6MW refrigeration plant to allow tendering of control system upgrade.
