With a diverse scientific and technical background, Ian has worked in the refrigeration industry for over 15 years. He joined STS in 2006 after spending 8 years in research and development at Rhodia Organique Fine, where he was a senior research chemist involved in the development of zero ODP HFC refrigerants. The principal output of this research was the ISCEON® MO range of refrigerants that are now in use throughout the world to replace ODP refrigerants. Part of his remit at this time was to assess performance and solve field application problems when using these refrigerants to replace traditional products. These refrigerants are now marketed by DuPont.
During his time at STS Ian has also worked on a variety of projects including the production of Written Schemes of Examination (WSE), PSSR examinations, specifications to tender documentation, ammonia hazard assessments incorporating DSEAR risk assessments and toxic vapour cloud distribution analysis, Hazardous Operation studies (HAZOPS), site energy assessment surveys, system operational problem solving and Carbon Trust work.
During his time at STS Ian has become NEBOSH qualified and has acted as a CDM Co-ordinator for various projects, including the complete building fit out and cold store installation for Chan Brothers seafood distribution depot in London, the installation of replacement chilling systems at the Nestlé UK factory in Newcastle, the installation of new chiller packs in a computer server room for a HP in Swindon, the replacement of chiller packs and the replacement of process coolers at a food manufacturing company in Derby, the replacement of a damaged roof at a cold store distribution depot in Frome and in the replacement of UPS and BMS systems for a HP in Gloucestershire.
